Another Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) build for the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 has been leaked. The latest updates brings the goodies of ICS, improved performance, and the premium suite applications that were specifically designed for the S Pen.

The Android 4.0.3 ICS DXLP9 firmware is designed for Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. But, this firmware should also work on phones from any other country. So, if you haven’t updated your phone, you can try following the instructions below on how to manually update your Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 to Android 4.0.3 ICS DXLP9 firmware.

Warning

  • The instructions in this guide are intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy Note, model number GT-N7000. Applying these instructions on another device or model may produce undesired outcomes.
  • The information in this guide is provided for instructional and educational purposes only. There is no guarantee that these instructions will work under your specific and unique circumstances.

  • Read and understand the whole guide first before actually performing the instructions.

Requirements

  • Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 that is not running either firmware version XXLPY or ZSLPF.  The said firmware versions reportedly contain a bug that will brick your phone if you perform actions in Recovery Mode that delete or erase data.
  • A Windows PC
  • Download the Android 4.0.3 DXLP9 firmware package (N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_THL.zip, 636.7 MB) to your computer.
  • Download Odin3 1.85 to your computer (Odin 1.85.zip, 198.58 kB).
  • Phone USB drivers installed on your computer. You can get the drivers by installing Samsung KIES. Make sure to close Samsung KIES before following the instructions below.
  • A file extraction tool such as WinRAR and 7-Zip installed on your computer
  • To maintain sufficient power, charge your phone’s battery to 70% or more before following the instructions below.
  • Disable or uninstall Samsung KIES, antivirus programs or firewall programs as these may interfere with Odin3.
  • Enable USB debugging on your phone.
  • Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.
  • For backup tips, check our guides on how to sync your data to the cloud and how to create local backups of your mobile data.

Instructions

  • Download the N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_THL.zip and Odin 1.85.zip from the links above.
  • Extract N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_THL.zip to your computer. You will get the file N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_N7000DXLP5_HOME.tar.md5 (some may get the .tar file because the file extension .md5 is hidden).
  • Extract Odin 1.85.zip into a folder on your computer.
  • Switch off your Samsung Galaxy Note.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home button (middle key), and Power button to reboot your phone into Recovery Mode.

NOTE:

  • Once in Recovery, use the Volume keys to navigate and Power button to select an option. Also make sure that you are not on XXLPY or ZSLPF firmware. Using recovery to erase data under the said firmware versions may brick your phone.
  • Select Backup and Restore and select Backup on the next screen to make a backup of your previous ROM.
  • Go back to the main menu and select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Confirm the action on the next screen.
  • After wiping the data, remove the phone’s battery and re-insert it while keeping the phone off.
  • Press and hold down the Volume Down key, Home button (middle key), and Power button simultaneously. A warning message will appear on the screen. Confirm to boot your phone into Download Mode.
  • Go to folder where you extracted the Odin3 files and double-click Odin3 v1.85.exe to launch Odin3 on your computer.
  • Connect your phone to the computer via USB cable. The word “Added” will be displayed in Odin.  If this doesn’t appear, make sure you have installed the appropriate USB drivers for your phone.  Also check that USB debugging is enabled on your phone.
  • Click the PDA button in Odin3 and select N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_N7000DXLP5_HOME.tar.md5.

If all are set, click Start in Odin3 to begin flashing the DXLP9 firmware on your mobile phone. Your phone will automatically reboot after flashing the firmware. The word “PASS” will also appear in Odin3.
You can safely disconnect your phone from the computer when the Samsung logo appears on the phone’s screen.

Troubleshoot

In case you get stuck in Odin or you get a “FAIL” message, do the following steps:

  • Unplug your phone from the computer and close Odin3.
  • Remove the phone’s battery and re-insert it.
  • Repeat the procedures above starting from step 9.

Congratulations! You have successfully flashed Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich DXLP9 firmware on your Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000. You can now enjoy the features of ICS and some additional goodies on your mobile phone.
